Palmisano partnered with Ryder Systems Inc., a Fortune 500 national transportation and logistics provider, and New Orleans-based WDG Architects Engineers to provide terminal and site upgrades for Ryder’s new site in Elmwood, Louisiana. Palmisano approached the Bid-Build project with a partnership mentality, led and implemented value engineering initiatives, and provided out of scope services to ownership and the design team in order to deliver best value.
Upgrades on the 7-acre site included demolition to five existing buildings and 10,000-cubic-feet of storm water retention systems and drainage. Along with site grading, Palmisano’s Civil Team brought in 9,000 tons of new limestone, performed stone base work, concrete curb and gutter, and completed 137,000-square-feet of asphalt parking and paving. Finishing elements included striping, landscaping, fencing, and lighting. The project was completed in 8 months and is the second largest Ryder facility in Louisiana.
Palmisano’s approach to quality control and communication made this project a success. The team’s tried and true Zero-Defect policy ensured a clean construction process with limited punchlist items during the final walkthrough. The Project Executive, Project Manager, Assistant Project Manager, Superintendent, and Foreman personally walked the site using the same working list with the subcontractors to review their past and future work to ensure issues were resolved. This allowed for multiple opinions and ensured consistent communication.
Over the course of the entire project, Palmisano displayed a sense of urgency and professionalism with respect to all construction matters. Palmisano worked hand in hand with our existing facility to make sure their operations were never interrupted during the expansion of the new 160,000 SF lot. They did an outstanding job of keeping our project on schedule and dealing with unforeseen changes. They truly lived up to their core values of building relationships with their client and handling all matters with absolute integrity.
