Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy was founded in 2013 as a Type 1 charter school. The school began with select grade levels and has added more levels and students each year. As of 2018, there are 1,583 students in grades Pre-K through 11th grade and 200 full-time faculty members. The growing school community required an expanded campus to realize the school’s goal to “grow a successful Early Childhood through 12th grade charter network with a 21st century approach to education.”
Palmisano is constructing the new 125,000 SF campus in a Construction Manager as Constructor capacity with Sizeler Thompson Brown Architects. The campus will be complete with 53 classrooms, library, multiple science labs, teaching kitchen, simulated hospital room, 11,495 SF of administrative facilities, outdoor plaza, and concrete paved parking for 316 vehicles.
The 13-month project is slated for completion in December 2019.
Palmisano is utilizing the firm’s experience with pre-cast systems to construct the new campus. The pre-cast system will reduce cost, accelerate the construction schedule, and create efficiencies within the construction systems. Ultimately, the system will ensure the long-term stability of the structure.
Palmisano is proud to build Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy’s vision. The team is bringing innovative construction practices to facilitate the construction of the first new public school on the Eastbank of Jefferson Parish since the 1980’s.
